What’s your style?
Sarah prefers to work in a natural, relaxed and unobtrusive manner, capturing real moments as they happen. She strongly believes that a photographer should be able to put your mind at ease and relax you during your photo shoot/event/session so you can be yourself and have fun. No one likes to have that wiggly cheek or awkward smile that you have to hold forever, which is why she changes things up, keeps you moving and only puts you in natural poses when needed. Some of the words used to describe her photography style are candid, real, romantic, timeless, classic, artistic, fashion inspired, beautiful, fresh and modern. Sarah likes to think that her photojournalism experience and time studying the arts have given her work an editorial or storytelling quality. Her work appeals to all of your senses, emotions, and your inner soul, and strives to make you feel as if you were there witnessing the event or helps you re-live those moments in time.
What’s a session?
Private session = photo shoot = incredible pictures! Sessions take place on location, which means both indoors or outdoors, in your home or at a park, beach, special place or cool location that we find. I’ll meet you and we’ll chat a bit, I’ll meet your kids or pets, and I’ll check out the outfits you’ve chosen. Sometimes we’ll go through the closet and grab a few more things together. Then I’ll walk around your home or the outdoor area and look for the slightest bits of amazing light. The smallest patches of light will do, and I won’t be worried about how green the grass is or how clean the room is. In fact, I always ignore piles of laundry or simply move them aside, because as a Mom…mine never seem to disappear either. Session times vary but they typically happen on weekends or on the occasional weekday morning or evening around sunset (best times for light without the sum being too harsh).
What can I expect?
Soon after we work out the exact spots to photograph or the clothing, the fun begins! I will do whatever I can to make you feel comfortable, so you feel like yourselves and almost as if I am not there. You might pile on the bed or climb in that big tree in the backyard or find a park bench to relax on. I’ll ask you to hug as tight as you can or tickle the person next to you, being silly and letting out those belly laughs is always a good thing. We’ll go with the flow and we’ll have fun, trust me! The session usually lasts anywhere from a quick hour to three hours if you feel like being adventurous and checking out multiple locations or clothing changes.
How soon are the images ready for viewing?
For most of the portrait shoots, you’ll get an online proofing gallery of photos for you to preview and share with family and friends within one week of your session. This is standard unless we have worked out another arrangement or method of viewing before the session. On average, our portrait clients can expect to see between 25-50 images to choose from. This is not the case for weddings and events. An average wedding or event can be anywhere from 6-12 hours, so the number of images is much greater and the time to process and present the images is longer as well. Our event clients can expect to see between 500-1000 images within weeks of their event.
What kind of gear do you use?
I’m a Canon gal, since the beginning with my very first Canon 10D SLR. It was love at first click! Now a days, you’ll find me shooting with a 5D Mark II and 7D as a backup, along with my favorite 70-200mm/2.8 and 24-70mm/2.8 lens as well as some other wide or prime options. Along with the Canon gear comes a bunch of other photo must-haves: MAC desktop, laptop, and of course Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop which all keep my world spinning.
